Bangor: Practicalities
Bangor is the last sizeable town along I-95, before it finally veers from the coast and heads up the Penobscot towards Canada. It's also the end of the line for Greyhound, the three daily services from Boston and Portland terminating at 158 Main St.Accommodation possibilities include the Main Street Inn , opposite Paul Bunyan at 480 Main St (tel 207/942-5282; $50-75), and the Phenix Inn , right downtown at 20 Broad St on West Market Square (tel 207/947-0411, ; $75-100). The Holiday Inn at 500 Main St (tel 207/947-8651 or 1-800/799-8651; $100-130) houses Bangor's liveliest dance venue, the Bounty Tavern . For the best breakfasts in Bangor, try Bagel Central , 33 Central St (tel 207/947-1654), the state's only kosher deli, or load up on subs and salads at Sweet's Market (tel 207/947-5217), 26 Main St; other options include a handful of Indian and Pakistani places, and the massive Mexican Pepino's at 570 Stillwater Ave (tel 207/947-1233). Margarita's , 15 Mill St in Orono (tel 207/866-4863), is another lively, if unimaginatively named, Mexican restaurant.
