Mackinac Island: Practicalities
Arnold Transit ($15.50; $6.50 for bikes; tel 906/847-3351 or 1-800/542-8528) is the only one of the three ferry companies to offer a high-speed catamaran crossing from Mackinaw City to the island.The average room on Mackinac costs more than $130 per night. The least costly hotel is Murray's (tel 906/847-3360 or 1-800/462-2546; $100-130), which serves a large continental breakfast buffet. Unpretentious B&Bs such as the Bogan Lane Inn (tel 906/847-3439; $50-75) and the secluded Small Point (tel 906/847-3758; $75-100) are more affordable. Haan's 1830 Inn (tel 906/847-6244; $130-160) is a big Greek Revival home close by the harbor. The information kiosk on Main Street (tel 906/847-3783) provides full details of accommodation, horseback rides and bike rental.
