South of Eugene along I-5, not too far from the California border, unenticing GRANTS PASS depends on the Rogue River - tumbling vigorously from the Cascades - for its living. Beyond Grants Pass, I-5 dips southeast through Ashland , taking a mountainous inland route to California, whilst US-199 heads southwest to the California (and south Oregon) coast, passing near the Oregon Caves .
